SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE

Her are my final three maps rolled up an put in glass bottles that I bought.
I chose to put the maps in these bottles as they relate to finding a message in a bottle on a desert island.
On the other side of the map I have written instruction to get to Leeds college of art and design.
The instructions are different for each map as the journey starts at different places

I wrote on each bottle the starting point of the journey
  • the plaza
  • liberty park
  • the train station
I hand drew the type using a "posca" pen which stays on glass

For my map of Leeds I decided to so something different from a bottle and created this box.
I think it is something that would be found on a desert island.
I hand drew the wood effect and cut a whole out of the top of the box to reveal the inside. I also added red felt to the bottom for the map to go on top of.
The box looked empty so made a compass and a photo book.
new students would pick up the box and the bottle at the same time....so if a plaza bottle was picked up a relating box would have to be picked up. This is because inside the box is a photo journey from the starting point to college.
In the box I made below there is a Photographic journey from the Plaza to Leeds college of Art.

SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE

Below are images from google maps. Using this I found the shortest routes and time taken.
I had planned on counting my steps and putting this information on my posters. However my strides maybe very different to other peoples and as long as they have the average time of getting there, the person can decide how long it will take themselves.

Below is the journey from The Plaza to Leeds College of Art

The Train station to Leeds college of Art

Liberty Park to Leeds college of art
I have decided to use these three routes for my maps as they are the most commonly traveled journeys in my year.
To make my work accurate I am going to Trace over the route so that is 100% correct.

SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE

A photographic journey from the Plaza to Leeds college of Art.
I thought this would be useful to new students so that they can be 100% sure that they are going the right way as there will be images for them to double check.
