Evaluation

At the beginning of this module I was weary that I would not be able too keep up and that I would not understand the program "after effects". I was surprised at how interested I became in it and how practice makes perfect. I have really enjoyed this module more than I thought I would, I have been able to learn new skills, remember them, put them in use, and have a lot of fun with, especially the "Top Ten" brief.
Producing work for film and web was a fun challenge, I feel the time given was the perfect about for the Top Ten brief as I had only just got to grips with it after the "Silent Movie". I feel I have come out with a large knowledge of the program but am eager to learn more, I think I would have like to experiment with "write on" and with the "camera" a little more than I did. My work involved a lot of illustrations and I decided to not vector any of my images and didn't use illustrators. I scanned my images in and made them suitable for film and web in photoshop.
I found that because I had spent a lot of time making my images that they would be the main interest in the video, if I had them doing too many effects I think there would be far too much going on in the screen.
Even though I have made my title sequence about the images and have gone for the simple and effect rule, I feel that I should have at least learnt about the other effects and tried a few more out, such as the 3D and camera and light. Which is something I would like to experiment with on my own now.
Packaging is something I normally leave to last minute and is normally hand made with is the easiest option for me, this time I made my packaging on illustrator. I spent time an thought about what sort of packaging would go with my work and when I found the pop up card it instantly made me think of a pop up planet. I am really please with how my packaging have come out, it looks professional and thought about.
I think my biggest strength was my illustrations and how they fitted with my idea. I was able to get imaginative and draw crazy made up planets. I am also pleased with my attendance and concentration in college and have felt that it has helped me improve my work. I feel my organisation skills have improved a lot and I now realise making plans and deciding what needs to be done and get done each day. I have also found organising on the computer a big help, making folders and naming everything so they are not all "untitled 1" made it a lot quicker for find what I wanted to import on to after effects. I feel I have chosen the correct target audience and although I feel it is suitable for CBBC, I think it would have also work on other channels such as early morning channel 5 or CITV. However I don't think this has effected the target audience. A weakness in this module is probably my story board, although they are done they were not always followed, I got far too carried away when I was on after effects that I would forget what I had put on my story boards and start creating other parts. I feel I should have done more story boards and made what was happening a lot clearer. Another weakness that I cant seem to get out of is making my work look professional, I decided that I wanted to hand draw everything but this meant the logo for CBBC and I think it looks too childish and not like an ident at all, I definitely need to start using illustrator and photoshop for those sort of things. I have been trying to annotate everything I can but sometimes I think things read for themselves and I don't do it, then I see other peoples blogs and realise I could have written a lot of things about my work, so that is what I have been trying to do.
Overall this have been one of the most enjoyable modules that I have done, I didn't think I would develop this interest for after effects that I have, it is definitely something I would like to do in the future. I am so pleased with how I have managed my time and got my DVD burnt a couple of days before hand in which has avoided panicking and rushing things towards the end, I feel I gave this module my best shot and I am please with my out come.

Final idents

Ident 1

This ident will be shown on a regular basis around a week before the program comes out, giving the time and day.
Ident 2

This video will be shown two weeks before not giving away the time and day.

Ident 3

Untitled from Liz Ibbotson on Vimeo.

Like the 1st ident this will be shown a week before and onward to the day.

Ident 4

Be shown a week before.

All my idents have the same tune which gives a reminder and an association to the program.

Alternative Title Sequence and Idents

Alternative Title Sequence

This is an alternative to my title sequence, mainly a change in background and font. The music is also different. It was nearly used in my Final Title Sequence but the timing didn't fit as well as the Bonobo track.
Music by The XX, song- Intro

Alternative Ident

Alternative ident which I would not use with the other idents as the background does not match the final idents.

Alternative Ident

Same non fitting background but is the same as the Final Ident except for music, background and font.

Same as Final Ident with different background music and font used.

Final Packaging

This is my final packaging printed on satin paper which I think gives it a more professional look. I am pleased with how it fits together and didn't think the DVD would stand up right when opened, but I chose strong card like paper to make sure it would. Unfortunately this made it harder to fold, and the edges haven't turned out as crisp as I would have liked them.

CD stickers

When you open my dcd case, there is a bit inside where you place the cd and as its opening the disc pops up. I thought this was an excellent idea for a planet to pop up.
Below i have created some planet dvds. I like them all as they are all planets from my title sequence but and if this was on sale it would be mice have have different ones as a little surprise.

Final packaging

This is my final packaging that I have decided on, I couldn't figure out where to place the blue planet but I enlarged it and cut it so that you can only see half.
I decided to not put images in the middle of the cover as it look too messy and clustered.

PACKAGING

I would like an image on the back, and I like this blue planet but it doesn't fit right placed in the middle.
Simple and effective?maybe too simple.
This ones too boring.
I think the colours work well on this one and it looks interesting, I don't think the image on the front matches "planets of the universe" as you cant tell that it is a planet.

This is the 1st packaging that I created. I thought it would be the one that I used but the more I look at it the more I don't like it.I think its the colours, the yellow seems too bright.
