Tea cup with wool

I really like theses images, I think they look really appealing and bright.
However I think they are quite childish and dont fit the target audience for marks and spencers costumers.

backgrounds on cups

Here I have added a different wallpaper that I have found to each cup and then coloured other parts using photoshop.
I think this looks really effective and would work well if i did a lot more.
I have only used flowery wallpaper background and would like to experiment with more textures.

cups and jugs

Cups and jugs to go with the other set I drew

Cup stack

I think these images work a lot better as there is more detail.

Steph and I both agree that there is too much colour on this image, we think that because the cupcakes and scones have so much colour and detail that maybe it will look better if on the other layer of the cake stand we are making there isn't as much colour and more of a pattern

cup drawing

I still dont like this style. I first drew out the cup and then added colour on photoshop.
I dont like the angle of the image it looks quite flat and it think I want them too look more 3d

Cups

Started drawing over images of cups in photoshop, I wasnt sure if this was working as well as the cupcakes did. They didnt look as good as I wanted them too and steph agreed and said I should try and do them a different way.

MONOPOLY the otley run

I thought I could make a game out of the pubs I have drawn. These could be bought in shops and even over the bars and pubs

I didn't have enough pubs to fill the board so at the beginning I added drinks

Instead of water works and electricity I added Subway and KFC which are both passed on the Otley Run

scones and cream

Here I have use the photograph again and drawn straight on to the image.
I have a feeling my style seem to be changing, and I keep forgetting how I did them to start with.
I am going to hand draw the image and scan it in and see which one I like best.

I do like this one so we may use a mixture of both styles in the final product.

Another attempt at the scone

This time I hand drew the scone an scanned it in

I think I prefere this version on the scone but it does have less detail in that the other.
I 'll discuss it with steph and we can decided which one we want to use.

Scone

The last three image I ave done I have done straight from photo shop and not drawn them out 1st. I'm not sure if the images are harder to do as there has been more detail but I feel like they do not look as good as the 1st ones I did. I have been trying to put a lot of detail on and I feel that maybe I have been putting too much on.

below you can see I have put loads of colour and detail in to the jam and I think it doesn't look as real as the jam I have drawn before. I am going to redo the scone by drawing it out 1st and seeing if it looks better the other way.

Sprinkles cupcake

Another cupcake. I started with the sprinkles and gradually built up the bun by adding different shading to it.

Cupcake

This time I thought I would try something different in the way I made the image.
On photoshop I placed a picture of a cupcake, and on a new layer I drew over it.

Strawberry swirl Cake

Here I have drawn a Strawberry Swirl Cake.
Below is my original outline of the drawing

I decided to make it pink and draw loads of lines for texture

 This is the finished Cake

Strawberry Cupcake

A Strawberry Cupcake. First I drew the outline and then on photoshop I added colour and shading

Cupcake

My first attempt is a Cupcake with roses on

I began by drawing the outline

I then added colour and shading to the image

I was going to add detail to the cupcake case but I decided I preferred it plain.

Picnic

We Have decided to do "afternoon tea picnic". This involves a menu of sandwiches, cupcakes/cakes/other deserts and scones.
We have decided to make an afternoon tea stand which will look something like this...

The Stand will be designed by Steph and I will be doing the illustrations for it. Each layer will have different images making up the layer of the stand. I will the draw illustrations that will go on the packaging.

We have discussed the illustration and we want buns and cakes and tea cups and tea pots etc

I am going to be hand drawing the images and then scanning them in and vectorising them.

Change of theme

We have decided to change the theme, we loved the wartime theme, and all the research we had found was giving me loads of ideas of what to draw. We had intended on making a ration book menu and posters about saving food.
However we talked to Jane and we didn't really know who our target audience or why we were relating wartime to marks and spencers now.
We have decided to change theme. We both love the drawing style of the carrot in the post below so we are wanting to find a theme that suit it.
I had done a lot of research on wartime but not on picnics.
I have found out that the word Picnic comes from France so I thought of a Picnic in Paris. I could draw a lot of building and objects and food to do with Paris and it would be easy to make a menu. We both thought that this was too obvious and a little over done so a "no" to that idea.
After more research we found that once the Victorians had heard about how the french eat outdoors they all decided to do, especially when they went hunting or to view the cherry blossoms.
We thought this could work quite well with the imagery but would be quite a challenge for steph to come up with interesting packaging which isnt a hamper as that is all they used.
Another thought was Retro
This involves a retro diner, food, people, objects. Both the imagery and packaging can be really interesting for us both.I could draw things like
  • milkshake
  • popcorn
  • hotdogs
  • pies
  • condiment bottle
  • retro car
Another idea is Afternoon Tea. This would involve a picnic stand that you would have to assemble and little illustrations to go on it to do with Afternoon tea:

  • tea cup
  • saucer
  • buns
  • cakes
  • scones
We have a student led crit on monday and will will propose all these ideas and see what they think would work best.

Drawing style idea!

After looking at all the war time poster and the style of illustration in them I thought I would have a go to see if I could do a similar more modern style of these images an if not work with something else.
I simply drew an out an outline of a carrot.

 Coloured it in using photoshop
and vola. I am really please with how this looked and Steph said it is exactly what she meant.
So we are going to stick to this style of drawing....but maybe not a carrot.
