board comments from crit

Brief 2
The Otely Run
My thoughts
Peers thoughts
illustrations here?
I think I prefer the title as it acts as an impact page.

Good range
Didnt get many comments, maybe this is a good thing. Still need to work on the type and layout.

Board comments from crit

BRIEF 1
MAKE ME A MASK
My thoughts
Peers thoughts
 Make most of front board
move line and name up. More spaces for text to breath
no bigger than 12 point
delete the hair line rectangle

I didnt see the hair line until it was pointed out so its a good job we had a crit
I thought we were meant to have an impact page where it is just the logo on the from page so I do not think I will change the front board

Need to cut line length, break boards up into columns
One larger image than the others
smaller ones to the side to equal hierarchy

I agree about having one larger image and the rest smaller

good range of products

From looking at other peoples boards in the crit I have realised I am pretty bad at making boards. I am definitely going to re-do them all and think about my layout and type.

Crit

Today we looked around everyone in the years work. There was a lot of visual from some people and not as much from others. I think I was in the middle, I could have printed off a lot of things to show like my Otley Run posters and checklist and booklet I just hadn't found the time. I also could have printed off my book cover's which I am planning on doing tomorrow.

After this we were put in to group an had an hour long crit with a tutor.
I found this useful and can now see what else I need to do.
Brief one, I didn't have time to buy string and perforate the masks as I only finished them the day before. I now have time and should do this. I could make a website to sell the pack or make products with the illustrations on. tote bags and mugs etc

brief 2. I need to make it more fun, it's a little boring and only pretty too look at at the moment. I need to make a game booklet for people to take round with them and get them really excited about doing the Otley run.

Brief 3. everyone seem to like the illustration but then it was another question of how to package them and what else I could do with them? book marks...event.

Also I need to do a lot more research and experiment more, I always seem to go with my 1st idea.

Tutorial

Brief 1: done, yay.

Brief 2: Otley Run... now that I have finally drawn all the pubs I need to think about "Product, Range and Distribution" my drawing dont have much of a purpose as yet other than looking pretty on a poster. Lorenzo and I discussed ways of making my drawings have more of a purpose. We talked about making T-shirts and how I would package this T-shirt. Drink Labels and cans. I was worried about how I would make these, and didnt realise I dont have to, I can just make mock ups and propose an idea. This has given me such a confidence boost as I was worried that my work just looked pretty and didnt have meaning.

Brief 3: I have recently figured out what I am doing...I was worried it would be too short but Lorenzo said as long as theres a range and executed well with packaging so it has a purpose that is should be fine.

Brief 4: could get much feed back on this, as I havnt done anything but picked the brief, however I did say that I think the brief is too big and asked if I could shorten it, this is fine aswel, but I just need to keep remembering that it is about product, range and distribution.

Time management

After this week there are less than 6 weeks left and I have only fully finished one main brief and 2 small briefs. How I am going to organise my time

Brief 2 leeds.... half a week to a week
Brief 3....I now have my ideas I just need to do the work, 2 weeks tops, I am hoping less.
Brief 4 know what brief I am doing I just need to start, 3 plus weeks
Presentation boards 1 week.

Crit

Today was our 1st crit, I found it really useful and a good chance to see what other people are doing.

I was pleased with my feedback and in our discussion we all came up with new ideas for each other.
My discussion about my second breif which I have  just started was really helpful, how is should be for freshers ( a starters pack guide) make them in to games, a review books.

For the Roald Dahl everyone thought I should concentrate on hand drawn type as my style of drawing is really similar to Quitin Blakes and I am wanted to make something different. This talk really inspired me as I have been wanting to do some hand drawn/ craft type.

The book fair brief was ver good feed back, everyone loved my drawings, the only criticism is one that I already new and was the stock....but as everyone said "im not made out of money".
I think it would be useful to do another final book in the stock I would have wanted them all to be, this wont be as expensive as making five and be good for my portfolio.

Im really looking forward to starting my second brief of leeds....and was thinking of even more ideas after the crit, I could make a calendar, coasters, games etc. First I just need to get all the buildings drawn and then I can get making.

Tutorial Feed Back

Where to start.... I got a lot more ideas from my tutorial and I am positive with the work I have done so far.
I should have started every brief by now, so I will get on this straight away.
first of all the book fair brief...I really need to consider how I am going to present the illustrations. This could be in a tube, envelope, book cover. I need to start writing the information I am going to be putting on the back of the images. Hand drawn instructions.
The island brief needs to be re-writen so that it is for me and not a client, but the website idea can be linked on to it, I think I am going to call be brief Illustrated Leeds, and create a little shop with poster and cards of building in leeds, I am also going to create a massive map with all the building on. Maybe a concertina book of the otley run pubs. All these wil be reminders of Leeds for students and graduates who have spent time being a student in leeds.
The Raold Dalh brief need to get started. I shouldnt just design the book covers but make it interactive....or have something that comes with the book, I also want to make and event for adults to bring their children to a magical place and hear the stories. They could dress up and bring props that link to the stories.

tutorial

yesterday afternoon i had a tutorial where i had a chance to talk about my four briefs and hear feedback and ideas of where my projects could take me and if i was on the right path.
starting with the book fair brief: images are strong and the idea of cutting out the mask and wearing them is good, but how will i make people want to do  this. we came up with the idea of the masks being a game or a story with tasks to do and how they should act. I think i will follow u on this idea and write some crazy, exciting story and game to go along with it. We talked about the execution of the book and how i need to make it look professional, and look like something I'd want to buy.
the Roald Dalh brief; the main feedback was that I could produce loads, the 5 books and book sleeve, window display and poster and things like stickers and mugs for children. The more I make and promote the book the better
Collaboration brief. Get all the buildings done for the collaboration and then decided what I can do with them for myself, poster? book?
