A gift is a thought from the heart
My group is planning on designing a website and a mail shot.
What will it consist of?
A list of gift idea which can be handmade or don’t involve a lot of money to be spent.
Our group and feedback shows that a present which has been had made or is personal shows more love than something that has been quickly bought without much thought.
Website- we are producing a website that will give people ideas for:
- Birthdays
- Christmas
- Mother’s day
- Father’s day
- Valentine’s day
- Weddings
- Easter
- Anniversaries
Our plan is to get people to go on this website, click on their desired topic and find ideas for gifts that they can make and give.
Here are the ideas we came up with for birthdays
Birthdays:
- A scrapbook
- A day trip out
- A picnic in the park
- Friendship bracelet
- Handpicked flowers
- Handmade photo frame
- A mix tape
- Cakes and buns
- Sock puppet and other handmade toys
- Handmade card and wrapping
- A tea party with friends
- A tie dye T-shirt
Mailshots
To get people to hear about our website we are planning ob making a mail shot to send out to families. We will also be handing them out in shopping areas to get people to think twice. We will send these mail shots out before events, such as sending the mail shot out before Christmas shopping begins.
Giving out these we are hoping to get people to think twice and to realise that they don’t have to spend a fortune to show that they care.
Feed back from Crit
Our crit with another group showed to be very useful
They thought the idea was strong and useful, especially like how it saves money. They believed we were solving the problem of “getting people to give more”
The problem that arose was the target audience as it is too broad. Comments were made about adult looking childish sending each other a friendship bracelet. Also handing it out to shoppers isn’t a very good idea, as if they have gone out to shop they most likely won’t change their minds as it would have been a waste of time coming.
We have decided to target young children who do not make money from the ages of 6-11. The flyer will be handed out in school and also sent to their homes as parents might like to help the children make their present. Parents also love to keep hold and treasure the things their children make when they are young and this might encourage the parents to let the children make their gifts.
My task in the group
At the beginning of the brief we were asked to write down our skills and what skills in others we are looking for. I wrote down that my strongest skill was illustration and that I am looking for a partner good with computers and Photoshop.
So my job in the group is to draw all the illustrations for the flyer and the website and my partners will be in charge of web design and putting my illustrations together with type and making sure the layout is correct.
As a group of three we decided that we wanted to work with the statement above.
We decided that giving isn't about spending loads of money. We are planning on making and doing a graphic response to getting people to give more without spending too much money.
we first thought and asked questions to friends "where do you get present to give to people?"
results:
- shops
- Internet shopping
- catalogues
- markets
- magazines
Our plan is to get people to give more by making their presents and our job will be to encourage and give ideas on how to do this.
what will you intend to say?
A gift is a thought from the heart.
How will you intend to say it?
A mail shot with present ideas for birthdays, Christmas, mothers day etc.
What language will be appropriate?
Gentile and friendly approach with text and image both informing.
What are you aiming to achieve?
We are wanting people to realise that giving a gift isn't about how much money you spend its about showing your love, and there are ways that show how much you care about someone without spending a fortune.
